In the case of future Hall of Famer point guard Chris Paul, that couldn’t be more true.
Paul will be heading to his first NBA Finals berth in his lengthy 16-year career after helping his Phoenix Suns topple the mighty but crippled Los Angeles Clippers in 6 games. As if his resume wasn’t already sterling enough, the one major knack that critics have against Paul is his lack of postseason success, which he’s silenced throughout the playoffs.
A shoulder injury turned Paul into a passer and not much else in the first round of the playoffs against the L.A. Lakers, and now against the Clippers, he’s dealt with health and safety protocols after testing positive. Even with the odds stacked against him, he’s come out on top.
Phoenix was the slight odds-on leader to win it for the first time in franchise history after the Brooklyn Nets were eliminated, and with all the injuries that have stacked up in the Eastern Conference bout, they’ve now become the overwhelming favorite.
