Ever since Coco Chanel entered the fashion world, women around the globe have had the privilege to cast aside layers of unnecessary materials and unpleasant corsets and replace them with oversized silhouettes and breathable jersey fabrics. Her designs, focused at the busy woman are the beginning of fine tailoring for women and are the very foundation of the woman’s suit.

The woman suit, introduced in 1920s was popularized by Yves Saint Laurent with his Le Smoking pantsuit, introduced in 1966. The fine tailoring though is all because of mademoiselle Chanel’s fine contouring designs.

FUN FACT: It’s believed that while Saint -Laurent is often credited for introducing the trouser suit, it was actually a different designer by the name of Luba Marks that designed the first ever woman’s suit.
