Kate Moss in the most controversial slip dress, bac in 1993

There’s not a single fashionista out there who doesn’t remember Kate Moss and her iconic see-through slip dress. Most of us here at Bastet Noir have mixed feelings about this iconic staple, but regardless of how we feel about it, the fact is that this dress managed to put slip dresses on the map, as fashion’s biggest trend of the 1990s. It was probably around that exact same time that slip on dresses have become more than just clothes. They were quiet, minimal response to sequined prom gowns and taffeta tutus (blah, we know right, although we do admit to have succumbed to this trend. Gulity as charged!) which at the time were only alternatives for chic girls. Today these items serve as simple reminders of a time when supermodels ran the world, celebrating woman’s freedom of choice.

They say history often repeats itself and while this stands true in all aspects of life, it’s an undeniable fact when it comes to fashion. Practical and comfortable, these babes seemed to have become this year’s hottest items that have rightfully regained their throne. The rebooted trend that ruled the 90s is officially back and more awesome than ever before, so we’ve made a list of the top 3 slip dresses you need to have if you want to rock this summer.

MAXI SLIP DRESS

If you want to recreate Kate Moss’s look but do it more subtly, opt for beige jersey slip maxi dress. It’s an awesome alternative to the one Kate Moss rocked in the 1990s. If the plunging neckline is too much for ya, pair the dress with a turtleneck underneath to recreate that iconic Rachel Green’s look or some badass Nirvana graphic tee. That way you’ll make it look more cas.

MINI BAREBACK SLIP DRESS

If you like to sass it up, the short bareback version will be the perfect dress for you to slay in this summer. Our advice? Go for graphic printed version to make it more fun and classy. All white is also a safe option. Bareback pieces add drama to your back, so if your aim is to party all night long, this piece is your safest bad for sultry nights.

SOPHISTICATED SLIP ON DRESS

If you’re looking for some serious office inspo put a white shirt under to give your look the smart appeal. This way, your night-out dress can be easily transformed into a daytime sophisticated slick look.

So what do you gals think? Is this trend a yay or a nay?
