A college football team has completed the hire of their next head coach, sources close to the university reported on Monday. This hire comes after the previous coach was fired for not meeting expectations in a reasonable amount of time.

“We are excited to announce the hiring of our next head coach,” said the school’s athletic director on Monday, “We vetted many candidates, but in the end, we found that the selected candidate checks all the boxes of what we are looking for, and have the capability to lead us in the right direction for years to come.”

The new coach is best known as the successful coordinator from that one championship team. Prior to that, they spent many years bouncing around assistant coach jobs within the college football landscape before landing a head coach position at a smaller college football program.

“I am excited to rep the schools colors and identify as one of their mascots! Let’s go team!” the new coach tweeted out just after the announcement was made.

The new coach comes in with high expectations, as a ravenous fan base anticipates not only a swift turnaround, but a future full of conference and national championships.

“I am excited to see what this new coach is going to do,” said an optimistic fan, “Our old offense was stale and the program seemed to stagnate. It will be good to get some fresh blood in there.”

Others though are skeptical of the hire. “I mean, what have they really accomplished?” said a pessimistic fan, “Sure they were a successful coordinator but does he have the tools to be successful here? Their past recruiting classes haven’t been top-5 in the nation, so I’m not that impressed.”

“I’m happy with the hire but I don’t want to get too excited,” said a realistic fan, “Let’s see who they hire as assistants and see what they can accomplish through the transfer portal before I’m willing to go all in.”

ESPN analysts praised the hire, but were cautious to predict long term success. “They are either going to win the championship or get fired in the next four years,” said Kirk Herbstreit, “That sounds harsh but that’s the reality of college football these days.”

At press time, it was reported that the school’s rival were in talks with a much better football coach to lead that team, which will undeniably create animosity and envy among the fan base.
