Item pre-sale update: Changes to crate drop rates and sale starting time

Hello, everyone! I’m Benjo Pacia, lead game designer for Battle Racers. Last week, we announced our item pre-sale launch date. Since then, we got a lot of good feedback from our Discord community regarding our crate drop rates and launch time. We’ve taken the feedback to heart and made four big changes to our item pre-sale; we’ll discuss each change below.

Change #1: Fewer parts for lower crates

The biggest problem our community pointed out was that it was much more worth it to buy Wood crates than Gold crates. Even if our Gold crates had better drop rates, you could spend the same amount of ETH on Wood crates and get a sheer number of parts. We resolved this by reducing the number of parts in lower crates (instead of increasing parts in higher crates); this highlights the value of Gold crates without flooding the market with too many parts, which would dilute their value.

• Gold crate contents remain at 4 parts per crate
• Silver crate contents reduced from 4 to 3 parts per crate
• Bronze crate contents reduced from 4 to 2 parts per crate
• Wood crate contents reduced from 4 to 1 part per crate

Change #2: Silver and Bronze crate drop rates rebalanced

With the Wood vs Gold crate discrepancy resolved, we noticed that Silver and Bronze crates had very similar value return on same ETH spent. We decided to adjust their drop rates so Silver gives more Rares and Epics (but not as much as Gold), while Bronze gives more Commons. Those changes differentiate them from each other by having different value propositions.

Gold crate drop rates remain the same

• Common drop rate remains at 20%
• Rare drop rate remains at 50%
• Epic drop rate remains at 30%

Silver crate drop rates changed:

• Common drop rate reduced from 40% to 28%
• Rare drop rate increased from 50% to 60%
• Epic drop rate increased from 10% to 12%

Bronze crate drop rates changed:

• Common drop rate increased from 60% to 67%
• Rare drop rate reduced from 35% to 28%
• Epic drop rate remains at 5%

Wood crate drop rates remain the same

• Common drop rate remains at 80%
• Rare drop rate remains at 17%
• Epic drop rate remains at 3%

Change #3: Fewer Legendary parts with lower drop rates

Lastly, we revisited Legendaries to make sure they were really as valuable as their name implies. We globally reduced their drop rates and cut the total number of Legendaries printed in half. This makes them more scarce and lets people who find them feel like they have something special!

• Gold crate Legendary drop chance reduced from 4.2084% to 2.4167%
• Silver crate Legendary drop chance reduced from 1.8036% to 0.9583%
• Bronze crate Legendary drop chance reduced from 0.6012% to 0.1935%
• Wood crate Legendary drop chance reduced from 0.2104% to 0.0556%
• Total # of Legendary parts reduced from 120 to 60

Change #4: Earlier item pre-sale launch time

Lastly, to cater to our European racers, we’ve adjusted our item pre-sale launch time to be earlier by a few hours. The pre-sale will now start at Tuesday, May 21, 2019* at 10:00am EDT (GMT-4), 7:00am PDT (GMT-7), and 4:00pm CET (GMT+2). Mark your calendars!
