Welcome to our first dev notes of the new year! We’re heading into 2020 with a ton of momentum and can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on. As we move into a new decade of esports, it’s important to think about how we are building products and scaling competitive experiences. To that end, we have some important updates around the work we’ve been doing on leagues, tournament structures, and Battlefy platform products.

WHAT’S NEW?

Feature Updates

  • Improved League Portals. Leagues are something the team is really excited about, and speaks to the future of powering some of the biggest competitive experiences worldwide. We’ve rolled out the first version of this product for the Apex Legends Global Series and the ONE Esports DOTA 2 Jakarta Invitational and the results have been awesome so far.
  • Updated Tournament Structures. As new games and genres start changing the landscape of esports, we need to make sure that we’re always able to support new types of tournaments. We’ve started work on an experimental set of tools that allows us to represent any conceivable tournament format. Internally we’re calling these tools Tournament Structure — or simply TS. TS had its first real-world demonstration during the Apex Legends Global Series, and while it’s still very much a work-in-progress, we do plan on eventually rolling out access to this system platform-wide.

General Improvements

  • Fixed a bug that made it impossible to leave a league team. We want teams to be tight, but that’s a bit much.
  • Banner begone! We fixed an instance where the banner would keep scrolling with you down the page on league portals.
  • Fixed an EA account linking issue in ALGS. There was some initial confusion around multiple EA/Battlefy accounts linked together, which has been resolved.
  • Resolved a confusing visual bug in League of Legends which showed the wrong stage of the competition.
  • Updated the registration flow in ALGS to fix a couple bugs around dates & time after an event was closed.
  • Fixed an issue in Overwatch teams that made invite links 404 unexpectedly.
  • Resolved a rare issue where users kicked by team captains would be unable to rejoin the lineup.
  • Updated the user interface in ALGS to be smoother and clearer throughout the tournament navigation section.
  • Changed some logic in league permissions that accidently allowed staff/rejected players to join an active lineup.
  • Tweaked a portion of the admin tool to enable easier sorting with columns.
  • Updated a bunch of graphics on the College League of Legends portal — now with 100% less blurry images!
  • Fixed an issue with League of Legends accounts that didn’t reflect a summoner name change in Battlefy.
  • Resolved a bug where the navigation bar would be invisible on mobile. The nav bar seems important so we fixed that.
  • Closed an infinite loop issue in leagues where team captains were stuck creating their team forever.
  • Fixed an error in the BYE match screen that caused a crash.

We are always looking to improve, and community feedback is important to us. If you have some direct feedback about our features, platform, or anything else — just send us an email at feedback@battlefy.com, or shoot us a DM on social.
