What? It’s 2020 already! All kidding aside, where did 2019 go? One thing’s for sure, I’ve never had a busier year in my job at Bayer. Keeping our Bayer Scapes blog going on a weekly basis was more challenging than ever but, boy oh boy, was it worth it.

If you’re not familiar with Bayer Scapes or if you missed a few employee stories, please let me curate some of those “worth it” stories for you. Call it a New Year’s gift. These personal and professional employee stories, and the employees who lived them, run the gamut of being inspirational, informative and, frankly, INCREDIBLE.

Check out this personal story from an amazing colleague in Consumer Health Field Sales, Deanna Zuber. Deanna very bravely shared her experience with Moyamoya Disease and the support she got from Bayer colleagues. Truly amazing story with many messages to help others!

Yet another impressive Bayer colleague from Consumer Health U.S. Pain/Cardio shared her personal story. This time, it was Lisa Tecklenburg courageously sharing her experience with breast cancer and her triumphant return to competing in an Ironman competition. Impressive story that offers inspiration, and hope for others!

On the professional side, Chandra Ramanathan, told his story about Tapping into the Ecosystem to Find a Cure for Cancer. His is a story of hope and innovation through partnership.

In case you missed this personal story from a husband and wife team in January 2019, Tianbo Xu and Jane Tang from our Environmental Safety Group in Crop Science, told their story of fulfilling a lifelong dream of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. These two adventure seekers believe having adventures outside of work helps keep a good work-life balance.

And then there was Darren Wallis’ story about youth development and 4-H. As 4-H’er himself, Darren knows the value of developing our youth and part of that is giving back at events like the National Youth Summit on Agri-Science.

And speaking of youth, Paola Espinoza from our Crop Science group in Hawaii, shared the story of her first job. As someone who was raised with a strong commitment to sustainability, Paola could not have landed a better first job as a Nursery Manager in Hawaii where everything grows!

Turning to another professional story, Jared Worful shared, Bringing Your Authentic Self to the Workplace. Jared is part of BLEND, Bayer’s Business Resource Group (BRG) for LGBT+ employees and their allies. He shares his perspectives including support for the Equality Act.

ENABLE is another Bayer BRG, one that is devoted to people with diverse abilities. Babette Simon works in Controlling and she’s a Bayer lead for ENABLE. She shared her experience at the Disability:IN conference and what made it very rewarding in 2019.

Did I happen to mention all of our employees who are involved in BRGs are volunteers? And, speaking of volunteers, check out these blogs and the amazing Bayer employees who wrote them in 2019: When Action Meets Compassion, Lives Change, Dream Big and Engaging the Community for Good. Passion for making a difference in the lives of others is a common theme among our Bayer employee volunteers.

As I close out my gift of incredible blogs, I hope you’re looking forward to the next Bayer Scapes blog as much as I am. I’m truly on the edge of my seat each week, waiting for the next story. In 2020, I know one thing for sure: I will continue to be impressed by our employees — what they do and how it makes a #BetterLife for people in our communities. Go #TeamBayer!
