Employee Spotlight: Emilie McIntosh

Each month, we’ll be featuring one Benefits by Design (BBD) employee in an Employee Spotlight post.

This month, we’re talking to Emilie McIntosh! She’s an avid reader and traveller (see photos below), and has been working as a part of our New Business team for abouttwo months now!

So, you’re a new member of our New Business team! Congratulations. Can you tell me more about yourself?

I have an economist mind but an artistic heart — I am a quiet, coffee obsessed, documentary loving, book hoarder. Wanderer at heart, Kingston is my home base which I affectionately call my personal lighthouse. The worst kept secret is that Beyoncé, Lana Del Ray, and Ella Eyre are my (current) style icons — self-expression through clothing is my own personal way of sharing my personality. I really enjoy learning; my main focus has been on technology, economics, and education.

How have your first few weeks in New Business been?

Great! The team is so dynamic and positive — I have really had a fantastic experience so far.

What is your favourite thing about your job so far?

The learning curve has been, for me, the best experience! I love learning new things and pulling new things together from past experiences.

Now we’ll get into the fun ones! What’s your favourite 90’s jam?

This is a tough one! Today, I’ll say Underneath It All — No Doubt. (I reserve the right to change this.)

What was the last gift you gave someone?

Sloth Pillow — the best gift I have ever given in my opinion.

“Sloth Pillow”

When you’re not at work, what are you doing?

That one is difficult — I guess studying, hiking, running, volunteering, and spending time with my family.

What is the last book you read and the last book you bought? Tell me about each (no spoilers!)

It was a re-read; Do Not Say We Have Nothing — Madeleine Thien Follows a 10-year-old Canadian girl and her mother who invite a Chinese refugee into their home.

Have you travelled at all? If so, where to — and if not, what’s the dream destination?

I have traveled across Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, and some parts of the states (Hawaii, LA.) Whats next? Maybe Fiji or Italy!

Like what you read? Give Jacob Irwin a round of applause.

From a quick cheer to a standing ovation, clap to show how much you enjoyed this story.
