In this week, our main goals were gathering the dataset and made investigation about our project. We collected our dataset and researched the related projects.

Cultural accumulation that has taken place in centuries has also reflected on buildings. Different forms of structure have emerged depending on the climate and cultural characteristics of the region. However, this cultural heritage is being destroyed to meet the everyday needs of the growing population. The modern understanding of architecture brings with it vertical building. Modern constructions destroy the traditional identity that cities have. The method of struggling with this is to promote the construction with local architectural features. To this end, the Cevre ve Sehircilik Bakanligi conducts a comprehensive study.

Most of the people think that housing should have done according to regional architecture. As you can see in this news links:

We think that our project will assist to this idea.

These pictures are examples of our datasets and they are from different zones. First one is from Alacati, second one is from Nevsehir and the last one is from Trabzon.

While collecting the dataset we used some Python script. This script downloads images from Google Images. For example when you give the “Alacati evleri” as a keyword, script searches Google Images and downloads first hundreds of images. It was very useful for us to gather dataset. Source of script is in this link.

Our goal of in the next week is determine the methodology of our project. We will search related works and look for their methods and what kind of features they used in projects. Then we will try these methods and select the most efficient one for our project. See you soon!
