Hello everyone. Today we want to talk about our Machine Learning project. We are Yahya KOÇAK and Girayhan Yıldırım.

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is the uncontrolled growth of breast cells. In order to better understand breast cancer, it helps to understand how any cancer can develop. Cancer is caused by mutations or abnormal changes in the genes responsible for regulating the growth of cells and keeping them healthy. As a result of these changes, the cell gains the ability to continue to divide without control or order, to produce more cells just like it, and to form a tumor.

A tumor can be benign (not dangerous to health) or malignant (potentially dangerous). Benign tumors are not considered cancerous: their cells are apparently close to normal, grow slowly, and do not invade nearby tissues or spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumors are cancerous. When left unchecked, malignant cells may eventually spread to other parts of the body beyond the original tumor.

Breast Cancer Statistics

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer-related deaths among women. In 2018, it is estimated that 627,000 women died from breast cancer — that is approximately 15% of all cancer deaths among women. While breast cancer rates are higher in women, more globally. In order to improve breast cancer, early detection is critical.

Our Dataset

We will use the breast cancer cell size classification data set. This data set contains 10 different variable characteristics in the cell structure of 700 patients. According to these cell characteristics, it is concluded that the cell is benign or malignant. We will try to analyze this data set using various machine learning algorithms.

Purpose of Project

The main idea of the project is the detection of breast cancer in humans. There are two classes as benign and malignant. Using the data collected from the UCI, we analyze the current status of the cell and try to determine whether the cell is healthy. Thus, the diagnosis of the disease can be found more quickly and effectively, thus providing an early diagnosis for treatment.
