Week 1 — Introduction

We are Nur Altıparmak and Ece Omurtay. In this post, we will give a brief introduction to you about our Machine Learning project -audio emotion recognition system-.

What is an emotion? We can define as a strong feeling deriving from one’s circumstances, mood or relationships with others. Well, have you ever thought that what people actually feel? Everybody says something but what do they mean in reality? Sometimes, it is hard to understand people. Is he angry or happy? Is he depressed or confused? Or how a partially-sighted person understands emotions without seeing gestures and facial expressions?

In this work, we want to solve this problem and categorize data fast. We can use this categorized data in many different sectors especially in psychology. So, our main goal is to enhance general mental health by determining sentimental situations of people. In order to achieve this, we are going to implement an algorithm using machine learning and deep learning techniques.

Dataset

We will use RAVDESS Emotional speech dataset from Kaggle. This dataset contains 1440 files: 60 trials per actor x 24 actors.
