And so, after two amazing months, our time in Spain has come to an end.

The last two weeks flew by and it’s surreal to now be writing to you from a quaint little Riad in Morocco. But more on that next post.

Second last week – Madi visited from Switzerland

On the 18th of September, I was lucky enough to have a good friend of mine from my year in Switzerland come to stay with us. During the time Madi was staying we indulged in many a bottle of wine while catching up on each other’s lives from the last 4 year when we last saw each other.

Once again, Ben played tour guide and took us to a few of the sights including Mt Tibidabo (a small mountain overlooking Barcelona) and Sitges (a small beachside town half an hour south of Barcelona).

I had a wonderful birthday on the last day of Madi’s visit and felt very lucky to celebrate it with not only Madi and Ben but also Oli, Elena (the couple we visited in Playa D’Aro in August) and Raquel (a Spanish friend living in Australia).

Last week in Spain

During our last week we tried to make the most of the time left during the day to enjoy the beach and progress more of Ben’s online course. We spent the evenings eating out with various friends including a polish couple who had also come for the wedding.

On Friday morning last week we drove to Costa Brava where we would spend the weekend celebrating the wedding of Oli and Elena. Friday evenings festivities were held in a xiringuito (pronounced Chiringitoj – a bar on the sand) on the beach. On Saturday morning at 11:30am, 150 people all boarded a bus at the hotel which drove us to the wedding. The ceremony was incredible, and unlike any I had ever experienced. Oli is German and Elena is Spanish, and most of the guests were international… so majority of the service was a mixture of Spanish, German, Catalan and English. After the bride had walked down the isle, there were various speeches before the celebrant undertook the official part of the ceremony, and then we all cheered and cried as they kissed and were announced husband and wife. We then enjoyed drinks and pica pica from 1pm until 5pm, when we walked down the road to the restaurant for the reception dinner followed by more drinks and dancing.

On Sunday, after a teary goodbye to all our friends, we made our way back to Barcelona to pack up our bags and the apartment.

This morning we caught an 8am flight to Marrakech, Morocco… where our story will continue. Check back in 9 days to hear more.

Unfortunately I don’t have many photos from the last 2 weeks, only videos.. so here’s a compilation:
