The Relation Between Media and Suicide

Relation between media and suicide from 2004-Present

Over the past decade technology has made huge strides especially in media. Media has changed the world we live in, we get news from all over the world in minutes and we utilize social media networks that allow us to stay in contact with our friends and family. While there are many benefits that media provides there are also some consequences.

One problem that the population has faced since media has advanced is suicide. As we know body image and cyberbullying has been a factor for suicide when it comes to media. People are comparing themselves to others as well as bullying people from behind their computer screen. So many people have been effected by this and in turn it has increased the rates of suicide.

As shown in the graph, in 2017, it shows a massive spike in suicides. As social media, news media, and technology are continuing to advance we see suicide rates continuing to increase.

Technology and media is a great tool, it has furthered our understanding however, it does come with consequences which is evident in the data.
