BCGDV: Tell us about your unique background and journey that led you to BCGDV.
A: I’ve been into tech for my entire adult life and I’ve spent the bulk of my career using that passion to solve problems with technology. One of my first jobs was in data entry for the aerospace industry. When I automated 90% of my job responsibilities, I was quickly moved into a technology-focused role that fit my skill set. After several years in aerospace, I moved to an automotive startup that was about to go public. There, I managed multiple SaaS rollouts, a corporate infrastructure datacenter to cloud migration, and nine office build-outs, all while scaling technology to support our growing employee base. A good friend of mine had been hired at RepairSmith, a former DV venture, and I’d learned a lot about DV from him throughout his journey. When I saw a role open at DV, I jumped at the opportunity to join.
BCGDV: Why did you choose a career at Digital Ventures?
A: I joined DV because I wanted to be empowered to build, solve problems, and make an impact. BCG Digital Ventures has allowed me to build solutions aimed at improving productivity and efficiency for our team and our clients. As a passionate problem solver, I do my best work implementing solutions that make measurable impact for my stakeholders.
BCGDV: Briefly describe your role and cohort at BCGDV.
A: North America DV IT supports the technology needs of our Digital Ventures Staff, our contractors, and our client embeds. We’re responsible for the hardware, software, audio/video, and the SaaS tool stack used to build our ventures. As the leader of this group of skilled individuals, I provide leadership and operational strategy for IT in the North America region. This often means maintaining a careful balance between working closely with BCG to align on technology direction while continuing to pave the way for digital innovation at DV.
BCGDV: What advice would you give to someone who is interested in joining your cohort? What are the three most important characteristics needed to succeed in your job? Why?
A: So, you’re looking to join the IT team at DV? Buckle up! This isn’t your typical “IT help desk.” As a member of DV IT, you wear a lot of hats. In addition to providing world-class support to our stakeholders, you’ll have your hands in dozens of different software solutions, hardware, and systems. You’ll be helping IT scale its offering by continuing to push the boundaries of self-service and automation. Finally, you are the type of person who thrives on a high-performance team while working in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and often ambiguous environment. We count on one another to be self-starters and problem solvers who can own a solution from concept to delivery and support.
BCGDV: How would you describe BCGDV’s culture? Why are you proud to be a DVer?
A: DV has an inclusive, transparent, and high-performance culture that is laser-focused on impact. I’m proud to be a DVer because I can work with brilliant, diverse teams and individuals who share my passion for problem solving.
BCGDV: How has BCGDV supported you in finding balance across your career and personal life?
A: DV has always been very supportive of my work-life balance and I do my best to uphold this dynamic for my own team, as well. Our hybrid working model and our supportive leadership, combined with flexible scheduling, part-time work models, and our unprecedented health benefits, has greatly improved my quality of life even when I’m not at work.
