bd300: Blockchain Without Crypto

Since April 10th, a special collecting game in honour of the 300th anniversary has been online in Liechtenstein. What could be more natural than to pay tribute to this important anniversary year with a hands-on blockchain project?

This is what the Blockchain entrepreneurs Bernhard Elkuch and Klaus Stark thought and decided to launch the bd300 without further ado, creating a unique blockchain powered project that does not use cryptocurrencies. Even without the use of virtual currencies, players can collect and exchange Liechtenstein-themed trading cards on their mobile phones. This is all made possible thanks to the foundational use of blockchain technology, implemented by bd300 partner Coreledger, a blockchain infrastructure company based in Switzerland’s Crypto Valley. Coreledger specializes in tokenization which means turning a physical ‘thing’ into a digital asset. For bd300 players, these digital assets are the album and the tradeable cards.

The aim of the game is to fill an album with 300 hand illustrated trading cards. These cards are distributed free of charge during campaigns, but can also be purchased online or in person from Quaderer in Schaan. Cards can also be exchanged with any other participant. The first 300 collectors who fill their virtual album will receive a “real” album for free, as a gift. In the end, the physical album can also be purchased.

With bd300.li, the project’s founders wanted to introduce the principles of blockchain technology to a broad audience in a playful way. A collector’s card represents a digital asset. This is only available once in this form; it cannot be changed or copied, and is therefore unique.

Thanks to blockchain technology, digital representations of assets will increasingly become our property in the future. For example, part of a valuable painting, part of a vintage car, or part of a property in the form of digital tokens may soon count as personal assets.
