It’s the end of the day and time to check the stats on your fitness tracker. It says you slept seven hours the night before, burned 2,000 calories throughout the day, and walked 10,000 steps. Great. Now what?

On July 22, we will launch Nourish, our breakthrough health and fitness nutrition system on IndieGoGo to answer that question.

Fitness trackers are everywhere these days. More than 11 million wearable devices were sold during the first three months of 2015, which was 200 percent higher than a year earlier and a sign that devices like Fitbits, Jawbones and Garmins are taking off.

But, as popular as these devices are for gathering personal health data and helping people set and meet daily goals, they leave the next step — taking action — up to the individual user. That can lead to mixed or disappointing results.

A busy mom who wants to stay in shape around her hectic schedule may rely on a Fitbit to make sure she walks 10,000 steps per day, but how does she know all those steps are actually making a difference to her overall health? At the same time, a CrossFit fanatic may use a Jawbone to set aggressive calorie burn goals, but can this person have confidence that the diet he or she follows is sufficient enough to support intensive workouts?

Technology can help answer these questions. The emerging Quantified Self movement is changing nutrition and fitness culture, and the Internet of Things (IoT) is bringing data from new sources together to deliver better insights. As a result, more people are eager to rely on the latest in tracking technology to chart their diet and fitness habits. The next challenge will be finding a way to turn all of this collected personal data into action.

We’re moving toward a future where connected devices will tell us not just how many steps we’ve walked, but how to gain more value out of workouts, how to consistently meet our personalized dietary needs and how to fine-tune our meals for maximum energy, recovery and nutritional value. It’s all about transforming what could be dismissed as a temporary fitness fad into a permanent, functional and practical way to improve quality of life.

At FitNatic, we’ve been thinking about the actionable health data challenge for a long time now. And we’re confident that, with our launch on July 22, we’ll move the world of nutrition and health tracking one big step closer to solving that problem.
