…. Psychologists use horticulture therapy and gardening activities as healing treatments for individuals suffering with anxiety disorders. In a scientific study it was found that gardening significantly boosts memory. In this project, patients with dementia participated in a 20 minutes of gardening activity which is reported to have increased brain nerves growth factor associated with memory.

It is claimed by scientists gardening helps to boost mood and reduces stress hormones. Different activities associated with gardening such as planting, watering and weeding have a rhythmic quality that creates a soothing routine for mindfulness.

Gardening being a popular hobby it allows people to build connection and be a part of vibrant communities, fostering strong bonds over a shared passion. This sense of belonging reduces risks of depression and anxiety syndromes. Gardening also grants mental satisfaction and moments of reflection and by engaging all our senses viz. touch, smell, sight and taste, help to develop a power-packed sensory experience.

The mind and body are interconnected. Low stress lowers the risk of heart diseases and control the blood pressure in a natural way. Gardening also burns calories as it is an excellent exercise to increase our body mobility and flexibility because these activities require balance, stretching and muscle strength. It is a wonderful workout that involves carrying fertilizer bags or flowerpots by using muscle strength while squats to pull out pesky weeds or watering plants require frequent bending that act as a good stretching exercise.
