My Entry for Be Open Writing Contest #1 - Poetry new year Vibes
The scent of sizzling bbq meat wafting up to our balcony
Raucous laughter tinkling glass
The southern hemisphere New Year
Has a very different feel
From those of my childhood
Where bone-biting cold and roaring fires
Were the background to friends and neighbours, wrapped
snugly,
As they brought black bun and love
And sang “auld Lang syne”
What about this year?
Our planned return to normal behaviour for us
After a few years of not having a choice
Off to the local cinema for a screening and bubbly, that’s what
we like to do
Well that’s off the menu
It finally got me
I’m not a unicorn after all
