A few days ago, India won the T20 World Cup final against South Africa I was very happy for India but at the same time, I was sad for South Africa because they too played good cricket.

I watched the whole match with my friends and as India won the cup we all celebrated their victory because India has won an ICC trophy after 11 years.

Cricket is always been an emotion for Indians, and maybe for your country too. But this year it was so emotional because three players of the Indian team Ravindra Jadeja, Virat and Rohit Sharma retired from T20.

So today I am going to share how the game of cricket came into existence

Cricket also known as the gentlemen’s game was known to be found in Late 16 century England. It was established properly in the 17 century and grew globally in 19 and 20 centuries.

The 1 format that was found was test cricket, the first test match was played around 1877.

There are many theories that France invented the game of cricket, it has been said that cricket was named “ craic” which means fun and games in general.

It is believed that first cricket was played by the children in England then the adults started taking interest in playing cricket.

It is believed that adults played cricket for the first time in 1611 when two adults were playing cricket instead of going to church. In 1611 itself the dictionary named cricket as the boys’s game which led to the interest development among the adults.

The Commonwealth

After the Civil War ended in 1648, due to the restrictions on the lower class, it was believed that cricket would lose its popularity among the youth. But it continues to grow in public schools in England. It became very popular among the youth.

It is believed that cricket has attracted many gamblers who bet on the players or teams so cricket became a spot for gamblers. Al through parliament has passed the Gambling Act in1664.

It is considered that cricket became a spot for gambling till the late 17 century.

In 1696, cricket was first reported in the newspaper for the first time.
