Anchored in Faith: Beyond the Gods of My Land

Even if life throws me into the hottest water or the boiling oil of adversity, I have no other option than to hope in God. That is my conviction. Many have looked at my struggles and suggested, sometimes out of concern and sometimes out of mockery, that I should return to my ancestral home and begin worshipping the gods of the land. I always laugh, not out of disrespect, but from a place of deep spiritual awareness. I know my destiny, and I have made a vow that I will not be counted among the list of failures.

Yes, the pressure was enormous. Their forces have pulled me—dragged me—from Lagos to the southeast. They wanted me to bow, to return to the familiar ground, to give in and accept defeat. But I refused. I anchored at Onitsha, not because it was a land of comfort, but because I needed a place to fight for my future.

Life here has not been easy. In Onitsha, I have known what it means to go without food. My family has known what it means to sleep without shelter. But still, I press forward. I have seen people lose their minds in lesser storms, but I keep walking. I am not seeing "home" as many would define it. I am seeing beyond home. I am seeing a vision, a purpose, a divine call that stretches far beyond the boundaries of my birthplace.
