I wish I could take it all back
A Poem
Sometimes I wish I could take it all back:
every glance, every touch, every kiss.
Every shared ‘I love you,’ and ‘I’ve never felt this way’, and ‘You’re my everything’.
You say it’s fine, because you close your eyes and find us together,
But I look back at that time and can’t help but feel manipulated,
used to fill a void your wife couldn’t.
Every touch, every kiss, every I love you — a lie.
And I don’t understand how you could be so convincing when you never meant a word of it,
And I don’t know how — if you truly meant any of it — we could be where we are now:
not seeing, not touching, not sharing ‘I love you’.
