There’s no denying that our ever-busy lives are becoming demanding. Many of us are finding that it’s essential to learn to be fast, flexible, and adaptive — part of what makes the modern workforce so challenging.

I used to consider multitasking a good sense. I was able to work more with different tasks. But more recently, I have started to rethink that view.

Multitasking is a skill that is helpful when you need to be alert and attentive at different tasks, but it is harmful in some cases. The effects of multitasking need a lot of research and considerable time. As a result, let’s look at some consequences of multitasking.

What does the research say about multitasking?

The study shows that multitasking does not make us efficient but rather makes our minds more confused with the change in work spontaneously affecting our focus.

If the activities are shifting, your mind ability starts declining as you are switching to different activities. There is a right way of switching but it doesn’t confuse your mind if you club the realted activities for multitasking.

On the Contrary, working on presentation design, playing music and simultaneous chat with friends or colleagues is not a right way.

Distraction and Your Productivity

It’s common knowledge that technology has enabled multitasking in a way that was not possible before. Yet, sometimes, it seems like there’s only one thing you can focus on, one task or project. When everyone can do a lot of things at the same time, the potential for productivity drops. In fact, a 2015 study by the British Psychological Society and the University of Oxford observed that people actually have lower productivity when they multitask.

Tips to manage multi-tasking in our life

How can we manage to multitask in our busy schedules and have enough time for everything? It is a very difficult task, but we can make it simpler. In this article, people can learn tricks and tips from experts to manage their time.

  1. Prioritise and group activities of the same nature to get the benefit of multitasking.
  2. Avoid activities in multitasking which are creating distractions.Its practically impossible to add every action or activity for multitasking.
  3. You can get the best productivity out of multitasking only if time is managed properly.
  4. Make a thin line difference between important and urgent. Don’t club those activities which are urgent or need complete focus.
  5. Make a To- do list to keep your brain sharp on what to deliver and even efficiently.

Why is Multi-tasking unproductive?

Multi-tasking is often a term associated with an inefficient use of time. But is it actually ‘unproductive’?

It’s not child-rearing.

But what if you learn to focus better?

What if it isn’t between work and home/kids anyway?

The problem with multi-tasking is that it doesn’t actually allow us to reach our full potential.

The ubiquity of multi-tasking is distracting us from our core tasks and those of others. It’s distracted us from getting the most out of our time. In other words, it’s making us less productive.

Multitasking has been in the spotlight for years as more and more consumers are doing it by definition. However, this also means that more and more people struggle with it. There are plenty of reasons to adopt a new approach to work. But there’s a hidden cost — the loss of focus. For many people, the costs are much more significant than they realised.

It’s a Strength or weakness varies among different personnel as some can use it as art and some got distracted. Thus, It’s not wrong if you are someone who has multitasking skills and uses them for your productivity.
