FUNNY STORY.
Nobody Cares – Wonderful!
A fun story with something to think about.
Time: 8 p.m
Place: The Smooze Diner.
“Hello, beautiful people!” My aunt greets me, stretching out her arms with her face turned up like she’s opening some act to a group of people despite me being the only one in this booth.
She then throws her bag on the table and takes the seat opposite to me.
“You're late” I point out to her to which she smirks while skimming through the menu card until the last page and only then she looks up at me.
“What happened to your face!?” She exclaims loudly, squashing my cheeks together with her palms, making my lips pout in the process.
“Nautingg, naw ken yo stap skwazing ma fayce” My words come out weird with my cheeks squeezed together like that.
She pulls away from me, taking off her hands. Thank god.
But then pinches my cheek making it pink. I hate it when she does that and whenever I say so to her, she just rolls her eyes, smiling.
“That's not nothing, I see a scowl trying to make a tent on your gorgeous face and that's a big problem, if you ask me.”
Now it’s my turn to roll my eyes to which she just laughs before asking, “Now tell me, what’s cooking in your life these days anyway? Spill the tea girl!”
“Why are you talking like that and can you please tone it down a bit” I say while I slide down the booth and hide my face.
My aunt just laughs. “Not a single person looked up from their phones or food” she says, knocking my knees with hers.
“Stop thinking about others. No one cares, darling. Lift your head up and shimmy with me and remember that sometimes it's good that nobody cares” she says with a wink.
I slowly sit up and smile a little from her dramatic display of motivation which she owns like a queen, of course, like the never changed theater kid she is.
When my life suddenly took a toll on me, my aunt came to the rescue.
She knows how tough it has become for me since I moved to this new, huge city.
I don’t know what I would do without her. She’s become my new favorite person, She – why is she eyeing me like that suddenly. Oh no, why did everyone go quiet suddenly? Something’s happening!
And then she does the unthinkable and gets on the stage near us and says, “For all the ones who felt crippled by the opinions of others, I hope you learn to love what you're doing, so completely that all those voices cease to matter. And until then, remember that thriving is winning! Go forth and thrive my loves! Woohoo!”
Oh my god, she’s drunk. That can only be the explanation and when I try to slide down again, she pulls me out of the booth to stand beside her. A low jazz music starts to play and a spotlight turns on us.
“Don’t tell me this is the fun thing you planned for us!” I whisper yell at her, trying and failing to not get caught in a room full of gawking people to which she smiles at me, conspiringly and winks before shouting “Let’s get this show started! Turn up that volume, fellas!”
Oh no, I'm fudged!
26 min later –
I had a blast. This is the best night ever! The first few minutes were so daunting but then the audience and my aunt helped me to relax by their encouraging claps, whistles and words.
Life really goes well when you stop sweating about everyone’s opinion because you know what?
Like my aunt said, “It’s just you and your mind darling. Nobody cares that much anyway, isn’t it wonderful?”
