You know, in this very hyper-connected world we seem to live in, I truly cannot help but feel we’re stepping into a cognitive apocalypse — a huge dumbing down through the gadgets and digital stuff that’s changed our lives.

It’s pretty freaky — everywhere I look, folks seem to be having trouble focusing, chatting, or even taking care of themselves emotionally.

I feel like I am watching a slow-motion descend into numb fog. Clear thought is worn away by fleeting attention and shallow understanding.

I am alarmed because I fear that we may be the last generation of humans who can think deeply and independently. Our devices are rewiring us down a dangerous path where mental clarity and critical thinking will be rare and elusive traits.

This is not a rant against technology. I, for one, relish innovation as much as anyone else, but the behavior patterns that occur bother me deeply.

In public space, the average individual forgets what they were saying mid-sentence, their ability to focus is thinner than the wisps of smoke running across the room.
