I ask, did Marshall Dillon and Miss Kitty ever have an intimate relationship? A serious question to ponder! Their show was on television for twenty years. Much longer then most marriages. Of course, this was in 1955. Before the birth of television, Gunsmoke was a successful radio show. Due to its large following, it was brought to television. According to James Arness ( Matt Dillon), in the radio show Miss Kitty, was a madame. She ran a brothel. Would a radio show lie?

When the show appeared on T.V. Miss kitty was the owner, and manager of the Long Branch Saloon. She dressed in an alluring manner, poured drinks to cowboys who were often drunk, and rowdy. She also gave sound advice and listened to their cowboy stories. This was not the description of a Sunday school teacher in 1955. This NOT the life of a prim and proper lady in the Wild West.

Miss Kitty (Amanda Blake) kept a shotgun behind her bar. She was very much a bold pioneer woman, much sexier then most. She hired and fired her waitress staff. Those girls were younger and more provocative, then she was. The cowboys were tough, raw and dirty. They were looking for more then talk and drinks. They were drovers, fresh off the cattle trails. See “Rawhide”, in reruns for background of the life of these drovers.
