Happily Ever After Together… and Living Apart

How LAT relationships are changing the dynamics of marriages and partnerships.

In recent years the LAT movement (Living Alone Together) has increasingly gained in popularity, providing couples with another alternative to keeping their relationship strong, while at the same time maintaining their independence.

With LAT relationships, each person has their own separate living situation.

The most common arrangement is a couple in which each maintains a separate residence. Some LAT couples live close by, some share duplexes, live in the same apartment complex, and some even live across the country from each other.

Some even identify themselves as LAT if they are maintaining separate spaces or living quarters in their home together such as a separate floor or separate bedroom.

The LAT trend has been gaining popularity in recent years, especially among older couples who are getting partnered again after divorce or retired couples who do not feel the need to remarry but want a long-term partnership with their own space.
