I Missed These Signs When Someone Was Into Me, and You Might Be Too
Most people don’t miss love. They just don’t know how to spot the signs in real time.
During my time studying for my master’s degree in the U.S., there was a quiet coffee shop full of books, and I would go there just about every night after class. That was one of the shops where the coffee prices were within my budget. There was a barista, named Katie, who always seemed to work when I came in. She would comment on how I was reading a terrible collection of poems, give me a cookie “that she happened to make extras of,” and sometimes she would just sit and talk to me about nothing for ten minutes during her break.
And me, thinking I was some kind of genius, assumed Katie was being nice because I was a regular customer.
It wasn’t until much later, after I had moved back to India and we were catching up on a video call, that she mentioned how hard she was crushing on me at the time.
“You just never got the message,” she said through laughter.
And I didn’t.
