Oh, Perfect Stillness Where Are You?

I wonder if the sun ever smiles… No wonder, but it seems to me that, tonight, all nature smiles with its mouth wide open and the fog of insufficiency and unfulfillment dissipates… When the smile disperses, silence sets in… silence that does not react, the silence that does not hurt, the silence that does not shake your being, the silence that does not seek the applause and attention of anyone, the silence that fills the spaces of your inner being and wraps you gently and tenderly in the mantle of peace.

Why do we long for peace so much? Is it not because of the noise in us? The diseases in us scream, the thoughts in us, the pride that always gives us trouble, the envy that serves our soul, the repressed feelings, and the guilt that seems to be lurking at every turn of life.

I love the quiet. In silence, new hopes are born, mysteries are forged between man and God, the soul ventilates its unoxygenated chambers, and the voice of God makes its way again to the ears of our hearts. In silence, the acceleration and high pulse of life take on its optimal rhythm. Life has its rhythm, and if you try to change its speed, you will cause damage.

There are moments when you lack verbal expression, when the letters resist you, and the words have to be pulled out with hot pliers. When you give your opinion about anything and anyone, you don’t come across as wise, but rather as a “verbal brat”. Seek the stillness and learn from it. Let yourself be reprimanded by her unbiased voice.

I have always sought less public places, places where I can take refuge in peace, and the place dearest to my soul is the cemetery. Every man is bound to retreat within himself, for no place brings healing and regeneration like a retreat into your soul. Silence hides many mysteries and precious lessons within itself. What did you learn from her?

Be quiet! I am asking you with all my heart to be quiet! Only in this way will we hear the voice of our beloved Father who speaks to us from the foundation of all things… Let us be still, hear the rain hitting the glass of lost dreams, hear the chirping of birds, hear the symphonies of crickets, the hoarse sound of train wheels, hear the sighs and groans of decaying nature… Let us be still, to hear something of the immeasurable, to hear something of the unfathomable… to hear something of the fullness. Maybe that’s how we’ll understand something about the mysterious, about eternity, maybe that’s how we’ll understand something about God.

What has silence taught you?
