This week was a big week for BE School as we held our first expo at Expo Capital Humano in the World Trade Centre in Mexico City.
It’s taken MONTHS of preparation, a significant investment in terms of time and cold hard pesos — they are usually warm and soft though! I’m lucky to be supported by an incredible team, and they have genuinely exceeded my expectations. The great thing about the expo was seeing how much we have grown, and how we are becoming more confident as a young company in a very big, often challenging city. Somos chilangos.
I’ve been going through a re-housing process with my daughter follow the earthquake in September. I am feeling extremely grateful to reach this milestone and acknowledge that there is simply no way this could have happened without significant help from the team and — I mustn’t forget — my family.
I met hundreds of business professionals and empresarios and I have a new found appreciation of where Mexico City is going as a business community. It’s quite overwhelming. This is a city HUNGRY for success. It occupies a uniquely-Mexican state: one of modern, fast paced growth and traditional business etiquette. The influence of technology is very apparent. Whereas some cities slowly evolve, Mexico lurches forward in big steps.
My biggest takeaway though was that for all the social media and marketing we do, you can’t beat a good old fashioned handshake, smile and exchange of business cards. I’m hoping the interplay between “online” and “offline” networking will serve me well as we look to 2018.
