It’s a very easy yet elusive concept.

If it were easy, we would have most of what we wanted, when we wanted it. When you master discipline, I believe you have mastered your life. Allow me to explain what I mean.

Discipline is the ability to do what is required when it is required and commit to it. We need discipline in all sectors of our lives.

Through discipline, we become consistent hence acquire mastery of what we are focusing on.

I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who had practiced one kick 10,000 times. — Bruce Lee

Financially, discipline is key when it comes to making and spending money. We need to plan for our finances and try to abide by them. When it comes to spending, it’s very easy to indulge and sometimes overdo it. Sadly, it’s not the same case when it comes to savings and investments. We tend to gravitate away from latter and more towards the former.

We need discipline in order to grow and move a step further in our careers. A step further means something different to different people depending on the career path they have chosen. In a corporate setting, a step further could mean a promotion, climbing up the ladder. To gain that promotion you have to show competence, potential as well as growth. For growth to happen, discipline is key in your commitment to your craft!

Our health i.e physical, mental and emotional, is important to keep an eye on. Discipline plays a vital role in how we take care of ourselves. Are we eating right and not indulging in the wrong food that we seem to gravitate towards?

Are we sleeping and getting enough rest? Are we stressed? Are we exercising and keeping our bodies fit by either going to the gym or working out at home when we have set to? Are we meditating or praying for our spiritual well being?

Being disciplined is ‘easy’ when you understand it’s importance and the consequences when you don’t. Start with simple things and try build your ‘discipline muscle’.
