Please Vote

True story: In 2002, I worked a voter registration bus tour that travelled around Florida. One day — I think we were in Palatka, but can’t be sure — one of our canvassers came back with the story of 89-year-old Ethel L. She had never voted — never even registered — in her entire life.

When asked why, Ethel, had a simple answer: “No one ever asked before.”

We registered Ethel and she voted that November. It’s hard to imagine Ethel is still voting in Florida all these years later, but her memory has always stuck with me.

So. If you haven’t already, I’m asking you to get out and vote.

Now, I’ll ask you to vote for Hillary Clinton. She’s pretty clearly tremendously qualified, compassionate and, yes, trustworthy and moral. Donald Trump is… none of that.

But more fundamentally, I don’t care who you vote for. I just care that you help me remember Ethel L. from Florida and vote.
