Defining femininity in the new age world
The definition of femininity has always been looked at from the external since the early decades. Its attention is primarily based on women’s appearances. More than ever in recent times, the feminist movement engages in high profile protests, women’s right issues continue to exist as women are being subjectified in sexual context.
The fundamental issue we often see on social media and in marketing promotes this superficial image of women, reinforces to viewers that sex appeal as femininity. This social idea is rather dated and not quite align with the representation of women today. There is certainly a lack to recognize the multifaceted meaning of femininity that is widely discussed in our culture.
We know there is a need to renew what femininity really means in the new age world we live in. Since femininity comes from the innate feminine nature in women, to define femininity, it is fundamental to look at it from her point of view.
To define the meaning of femininity we must turn the focus on the inner women. What defines femininity in society today is women who exemplified these qualities:
Love
The relationship she has with herself is vital in her being. She understands the importance to nurture the body, mind and spirit. The consciousness to care in those areas, she maintains in balance and peace within. She practices patience and kindness. The loyalty and commitment to providing the best for herself, unquestionably means she does not settle for less. She cherishes and loves herself to acknowledge her worth and what she deserves.
Boundaries
A woman who sets boundaries between herself, whether with people or circumstances, seldomly gets flustered by the outer influences and manages to stay grounded in her own being. She knows who she is, her values and her beliefs. It is a compass for her to accept or to reject information from the world. She knows her voice and her own opinion. To question everything and to rewrite matters in her own words.
Trusts
Feminine intuition is not a myth. As she is assured of her identity, she is confident to trust in her own feelings. She accepts them as they are valuable. She is tuned in with herself, listens to her inner voice, and is guided by an inner knowing. She applies to self-expression and does not second guess her emotions, it conveys to the outer world as she stands for what she knows. She navigates life by trusting herself.
Masculinity
There is masculinity in femininity. Just like yin and yang, one cannot exist without the other, the essence lies when the opposite work together as a whole. When the quality coexists as one, she is complete. She is assertive and passive, dominant and submissive, strong and weak and so forth. This polar element forms the equilibrium within to fulfill herself. She is already enough, there is no need to seek security outwardly in the world.
The world and culture are ever changing and women in society is ever evolving. We cannot change history’s social perception of women, but we have the responsibility to alter and rewrite its narrative. To redefine the meaning of femininity in present time will empower and enhance liberation for women, and many generations to come.
It is clear, the definition of femininity is much more complex and extensive than those who believe to be superficial and on the surface. The beauty in femininity is defined by the qualities within herself. It is time to recognize femininity is in all women, as she carries these feminine qualities, she can claim her feminine power.
