Dreadfully Exciting

It’s dreadfully exciting, this time,

The waiting and anticipating,

The not knowing and feeling all of it anyway,

The fire inside my soul leaping alive at a glimpse of your smile and sparkling eyes,

So close I can almost touch it,

And if I stretched too thin I might,

But I’ll stay with my feet planted, still able to soak in all the water and light,

Wait to grow where I am until I can reach your hand,

And together we’ll hold each other until the stars we wished upon for one another all burnout.

It’s dreadfully exciting,

The pit in my stomach,

The laughter on my tongue,

The time I’ll only get to live well, once.
