The more people I meet, the more I hear the same challenges and insecurities — the fear of the unknown, the “what’s my next step?”, “I don’t know what to do”, “I’m lost”, these are constant conversations we have with ourselves.

We live in a world where not only are there constantly things happening around us, but we’re constantly reminded of them. We see someone living their “best life”, travelling the world, constantly out and having fun, and then we look at ourselves and think, “well, where does that leave me?”

First of all, comparison is our worst nightmare. The more we compare, the more we start feeling sorry for ourselves. Underneath comparison is often a belief or sense that we are not enough as we are, which is created by our inner critic, our ego. “I need to get more so I can be more” is often the philosophy behind our goals. The thing is, we are all going through the same thing. Even when we achieve something that we thought we wanted, we quickly look for the next step, the next move that, what we believe, will make us even happier. This is why people constantly feel lost. They’re on a never-ending cycle.

The best thing about feeling lost is that you know that where you are now is not fulfilling enough (which has nothing to do with you not being enough!). The first step is to really recognize your life and where you’ve come without comparing it to anyone. Try to count your blessings and be proud of yourself for how far you’ve come.

The next step is to explore. We are all walking in spaces that have many closed doors. Everything is unknown until it is known. And the more you know, the more you explore and absorb, the more you’ll be able to recognize what exactly makes you feel good, and what doesn’t. Once you put the responsibility in your own hands, deciding where to go and where to stop, you start to realize what you are capable of, where your strengths lay, and what your heart wants more of.

Explore far enough to meet yourself. You are as big as the universe. Position yourself as an explorer, and be open to anything that comes your way. The sun and the moon are complete opposites and have their own separate duties. But when they meet a few times a year, it creates a wonderful and beautiful eclipse.

Opportunities are always there, but many fail to see them. Don’t be fearful of the unknown, see the unknown as potential.

It can also help to imagine if you were forced to move to a deserted island — what would you take with you? Learning what it is that you see as a priority when nothing else matters, can help you realize what you should keep exploring more of.
