After a breakup, our friends and family quickly tell us just move on, however, how do we move on if we are not over it?

Moving On

Moving on is something that can be more painful than the initial breakup. The phrase itself can cause more pain than the words that were shared by an ex-lover. If this is the case, then how can one just move on? How can friends and family just expect you to “be okay” after your whole world has just fallen apart?

Moving on is a big statement. It is stating you are ready to not feel any emotions tied to an ex-lover. However, most of us hear those two words before we are ready to “move on”, which in return causes more pain and hurt than good.

Moving Forward

Instead of saying moving on, the correct words should be moving forward. Moving forward does not have the same meaning as moving on. Moving on assumes you are over the past relationship. Moving forward does not imply you are over it, just that you are going to continue on in life until one day you are.

The Benefit of Moving Forward

Moving forward has many benefits. You can acknowledge your thoughts and emotions while stating you can move past the current situation. Moving forward gives you the power to decide what you are going to make out of your current situation.

Moving forward gives the power back to you. You don’t have to be over the situation and heartbreak, just know that you can move forward even when it feels like you’ve lost it all.

Moving forward, not moving on.
