If you are a kid born in the ’70s or ’80s, I am pretty sure that you might be fascinated by the film ‘Back To The Future’(1985). Undoubtedly it is one of the best time travel stories. Apart from the story, what brought attraction was the time travel machine itself — the DeLorean car.

But today we are not going to talk about the car or the film, rather the man behind the car — John DeLorean who can be called Elon Musk of the 80s. An eccentric high-flying businessman, a civil war, politics, a timeless car, multi-million dollar drug bust, glamour, fame, and a meteoric downfall. It’s one of the most incredible stories of modern times.

Introduction:

John wanted to become next Enzo Ferrari or Ferdinand Porsche and he would do everything to make it happen even if at the cost of his family. In the 1960s in General Motors, he demonstrated his engineering talents and quickly rose to the Pontiac division at just age 40. He turned Pontiac from a brand of the old-aged buyers to a massive car by leading the legendary Pontiac GTO project. It was a risky task but his risk paid off. The Pontiac GTO went on to influence the American muscle car movement. His next project Pontiac Firebird was a masterpiece.
