The Fourth Secret of a Millionaire’s Mind
James Altucher interviewed T. Harv Eker in his 100th episode and it blew my mind.
It might be that I am too much into personal development right now but his key lessons resonated so much with me that I want to share them here.
The fourth secret he shares is …
Making money is a completely different skill from keeping money.
While successfully building his sports equipment business, he couldn’t manage to keep his money together. That’s when he realized that he had never learned or no one ever taught him to keep money.
To keep money, it’s very different from making money.
Money Blueprint
You’ve been taught to think the thoughts you think. If you were taught bad habits, then you may be programmed to continue to follow with bad habits throughout your life.
He believes what of the bad thoughts we were brought up with is that “money sucks” or “money makes you a bad person”.
He calls this the “money blueprint”.
If we want to become rich and wealthy, he thinks that we must change the way we think about money. I agree because I tend to think this way.
My mind keeps telling myself: “You can’t charge that much because your product or service isn’t worth that money.” “No one will buy this”. All these mindfucks about money are truly powerful and determine our trajectory.
I haven’t worked hard enough on these mindfucks but realized that I should and will because they stop me from making and keeping money — based on the businesses I build and the products and services I offer.
Wealth Principles
In his book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” he shares a few wealth principles, I want to share with you here:
- Your income can grow only to the extent you do!
- If you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the roots. If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible.
- Money is a result, wealth is a result, health is a result, illness is a result, your weight is a result. We live in a world of cause and effect.
- Give me five minutes, and I can predict your financial future for the rest of your life.
- Thoughts lead to feelings. Feelings lead to actions. Actions lead to results.
Quotes
Here are a few quotes from his book taken from GoodReads.
- Rich people believe “I create my life.” Poor people believe “Life happens to me.”
- Rich people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich.
- Rich people think big. Poor people think small.
- Rich people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles.
- Rich people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people.
- Rich people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people.
