Retail trends to expect in 2020

After a few decades of online shopping, the percent of consumers who prefer to shop in physical retail stores is 85.7%. The reality for eCommerce is that the number of people who prefer physical retail shopping over an alternative might have actually risen over the past few decades. This comes as a huge surprise to many.

Critics of brick and mortar stores have been carrying on for years that online shopping will end physical retail as we know it. As we close the decade it seems clear that the critics were probably…wrong.

Some DTC founders were aware that this was the case and seemed to see around corners better than the rest of us. This allowed those DTC brands to shake things up in 2019. A year that saw brands like Glossier and Casper flourish.

The eMarketer reports that there are over 400 DTC brands to choose from today, and this number is growing. They also report that one of the biggest trends in DTC is that these companies are turning on brick and mortar operations.
