The income statistics above were taken from an immigration study released in 2001 by BBC News. Note that this study differentiates between “new” and “settled” immigrants (without giving a definition of those terms). The numbers above are those for “settled” immigrants. In that study, individuals that make more than £750 per week are considered high earners. Low earners make less than £149.20 per week.

These are the complete numbers for Ghanaian immigrants from the study:

  • New Immigrants: 63.7% employed, 17.19% are low earners, 3.13% are high earners
  • Settled Immigrants: 69.51% employed, 15.04% are low earners, 5.31% are high earners

Ghanaians faced a 33% decrease in work visa grants to the UK in 2014

Ghanaians faced the second largest decrease in work visa grants to the UK after Nigeria in 2014. A total of 627 work visas where granted — 306 less than the year before. The same tendency can be observed for visitor visas: In the same year, the number of visitor visas granted to Ghanaians decreased by 2,359, which equals a 14% decrease.
