In the final season of How I Met Your Mother, Ted finally tells his kids how he actually met their mother at Barney and Robin’s wedding. It was an intricate and long story, but it served its purpose of explaining how Ted became the man he needed to be to eventually meet his wife. Season 9 brings the whole show full circle while displaying the themes of maturity, purpose, and — possibly Ted’s biggest reason for telling the story — life moves on.

Maturity

I believe that How I Met Your Mother is one of the best shows in terms of character development. Especially because the series’s story revolves around Ted’s growth, HIMYM displays real change in its characters. We see significant maturity from the characters by the conclusion of season 9.

Marshall and Lily, while anticipated, start a family and grow up with their children. They both individually accomplish phenomenal professional dreams. Lily becomes an art consultant and gets to work in Rome while bringing her family. Marshall eventually…
