10 house and techno tracks from the 00’s that I love
For this first article I would like to talk about my favourite vinyl records. Those records I used to play at the clubs when I was a bit younger. Now still play them from time to time when someone makes a mistake and books me for an event. Here ten of my favourite techno and house records of the 2000 decade.
Cobblestone Jazz — Dump truck [Wagon Repair, 2007]
Canadian legendary artist Mathew Jonson re-invented Techno with his solo productions like De-Compression and each and every one of his releases by his own ItIsWhatItIs. One day, he met two friends and recorded this huge improvisation called ‘Dump Truck’.
Villalobos — Fizheuer Zieheuer [Playhouse, 2006]
Chilean maestro Ricardo Villalobos got us hooked to his minimal sound on his Alcachofa album. He returned with a sick and twisted groove with a trumpet perfectly played live (we guess). Fizheuer Zieheuer is different, and that’s the point.
Tadeo — Granate Granada [CMYK Music, 2006]
Miguel Sar introduced with the also huge Alex Under a new variation of techno, keeping live just the essential items. It was called minimal techno and it’s still sounding in Spain. Granate Granada was released by Alex Under’s CMYK.
Ellen Allien — Your Body is My Body (Kiki’s Body Trip Mix) [Bpitch Control, 2005]
Bpitch Control’s label boss Ellen Allien chose very well the remixer for her anthem. Kiki gave his best in this track that perfectly reflects the essence of one of the most important labels of Berlin.
Vitalic — Poney part 1 [International Deejay Gigolo, 2005]
French artists on a German label. The four cuts of this vinyl are gems. Vitalic creates Techno but uses a House clap. That made it great. Also the voice is so incredible. Put your hands up in the air.
Michael Mayer — Neue Luthersche Fraktur [Kompakt, 2004]
Kompakt’s master mind Michael Mayer adventured with his first album on 2004 and got a bunch of timeless jewels. On the B side of this ‘Touch’, we find this bomb called ‘Neue Luthersche Fraktur’.
Nathan Fake — Outhouse [Border Community, 2003]
Since the first release, James Holden’s Border Community was a shock for the electronic global scene. We also discovered his pupil Nathan Fake and his revolutionary sound mixture of strength, darkness and sinister feelings.
16B — The Game [Hooj Choons, 2002]
Omid Nourizadeh aka 16B was really a prolific producer last decade. ‘The Game’ was one of his masterpieces, this time for the legendary and extinct label Hooj Choons. Here the English imprint was changing from Trance to a style that in that moment didn’t have a name yet: Tech-House.
Legowelt — Disco Rout [Cocoon, 2002]
After a couple of years producing, Legowelt exploded with his massive track. He represented the evolution of the electro style, and was joined with the raw Johannes Heil for an epic release on the Sven Vath’s Cocoon Recordings.
Loudeast — Lights Off [Shinichi, 2001]
Releasing by Deep Dish’s imprints Yoshitoshi and Shinichi wasn’t easy. Valencian fellow Nacho Marco got it with a superb House anthem. Still in the boxes of top djs, Lights Off is a timeless masterpiece.
