What would a perfect digital healthcare platform look like? How technology advancements such as Blockchain and machine learning could work in the service of our health? We thought about it and created OSIS — a glimpse of the healthcare’s bright future.

The stats are frightening — according to various studies, discrepancies in medical diagnosis may cause harm even to 85% of patients, and up to 20% of autopsies reveal that patients were not treated right. It’s easy to blame doctors, but the fact is the whole healthcare system doesn’t use modern technology the way that it should. People often can’t describe their symptoms accurately, the treatment cards are a mess, it is still difficult to consult a specialist online, and patients don’t know how to care for their health day-to-day.

Of course, many roadblocks make changes in healthcare challenging to implement. Some startups try to heal not only patients, but also the sick system itself, yet it will take more than a while to connect the dots and turn the most disruptive ideas into reality.

Ultimately though, someone will come up with a groundbreaking universal solution. No one can develop such a system right now, but that didn’t stop us from taking matters into our own hands. Even though the solution itself lies beyond our current capabilities, we can create a concept that will make people understand how amazing healthcare can eventually become.

That’s why OSIS was born — to motivate great minds and show them a light at the end of the tunnel. We also wanted to inspire ourselves, to be prepared for what’s coming. Over 200 hours of work later, we still don’t have a cure, but we have a vision, and our goal is to get closer to it with every healthcare project we handle. Wanna know more about the vision? Come on, join us on a backstage, behind the scenes OSIS tour ;)

OSIS: Universal, Powerful, Simple

OSIS is a child of our imagination and creativity. And in-depth research, of course, but this one doesn’t sound nearly as romantic 😊We were thinking what would a comprehensive digital healthcare solution look like for days. Our team concluded that a shining example should revolutionize the way doctors and patients communicate, provide specialists with information that’d make diagnosing easier and help people stay in shape. OSIS consists of four elements, and each of them moves the concept towards those goals:

  • Wearable for patients— A smartwatch that monitors users’ health, encourage them to a healthy lifestyle and send data to digital patient’s card
  • Wearable for doctors — Nearly 85% percent of hospitals still rely on pagers. Doctors stick to them mainly because pagers don’t distract them as much as smartphones, but that’s not the only reason. However, the communication is limited and always work in one direction. Our wearable concept features optional voice control interface and more complex message system, allow to set an alarm and synchronize with online calendar.
  • Doctor’s Dashboard — Doctors can check their patients’ data and consult them with their colleagues. AI-powered assistant gives them diagnosis suggestions.
  • Patient’s Dashboard — Gives patients’ access to their medical record, lets them share it with a doctor, reminds about preventive examinations, and analyzes health and lifestyle data.

We did our best to make every element simple and pleasant to look at. Why? Well, Electronic Health Records are usually associated with unintuitive design — it may not sound like a big deal, but in fact, it drags doctors away from such systems. A survey conducted in 2015 by PerfectServe shows that 8% of hospitals use EHR and only 12% of clinicians chose it as a communication tool with colleagues. At the same time, almost every respondent believe that successful care collaboration would help to improve population health management. Yeah, bad design choices can even damage your health❗

We solved this problem with a simple, yet powerful OSIS dashboard. It was designed with practicality in mind — we wanted to squeeze as much of valuable info on one screen as possible, but also keep it clean, so that every doctor would feel confident when using it.

This shows what OSIS is all about. During the creation process, we dug through dozens of surveys, talked to doctors, and even attended a few conferences — all to understand problems of modern healthcare and shape the best possible solution. It turned out that it takes a lot of time even to scratch the surface — our team spent hundreds of hours on this project, and we are still discovering new issues that need fixing.

OSIS: AI to the Rescue!

The name OSIS actually started out as dAIgnosis, and was inspired by our fascination in machine learning. Ultimately, we have agreed to throw out the first part of the word — OSIS sounds warmer and more inviting.

Regardless of the name, AI and diagnosis tandem is still a cornerstone of our project. We believe that AI algorithms can significantly increase the diagnoses accuracy rate — they would learn from the data coming from thousands of doctors and patients, and suggest presumable diseases and ailments to doctors. How cool is that? Of course, medical specialists can’t trust the technology blindly, but such a system would often set them on the right track.

The author of “The essential AI handbook for leaders” lists identifying and predicting brain tumors as one of 11 life-changing AI applications. Among other publications, it reassured us that we were moving in the right direction. He also adds that thinking about implementing AI in every product should start with finding the right problem to solve. Of course, we knew about that, and that’s what we did!

OSIS: Your Personal Doctor

Take the simple fact that most people don’t care for their health. We could’ve bored you to death with stats and surveys, but let’s stick to the basics. Most of us only want to see a doctor when we feel that something is wrong, right? It makes our lifestyle less healthy than it could be and sometimes can cause serious harm. What can be done with it? You guessed it — we should give it a machine learning treatment!

A smartwatch telling you that it’s time to move when you’re lying on a couch for three hours is nothing groundbreaking — we are used to that. OSIS elevates this idea to a different level — our wearable would monitor patients’ health and advise them precisely what they should do to stay in shape. Think Google Assistant or Siri, but focused on your health and wellbeing — a digital assistant helping you 24/7, ready to pass the baton to the real doctor whenever it’s necessary. What’s even more helpful, a doctor would instantly know how you sleep, how much you move, what was your blood pressure and heart rate over the last week.

OSIS: Your Data Safe as Houses

Yeah, this kind of data would be extremely valuable both to doctors and our AI-powered assistants. Just thinking about it made us excited, but then we thought: what if it would fall into the wrong hands? Stolen medical data become a popular product on dark web’s black market! No wonder that the demand is high — it can be used to get access to medical services, drugs, or even fraudulent tax returns in your name. Identity thieves also know a thing or two about their victims’ finances, addresses, billings and insurance policies. Thankfully, the answer to this threat was obvious to us — blockchain. 10Clouds specializes in this technology — we are sure that it could be used to store data securely and keep it from frauds.

We Want To Follow Our Dream

That’d be the power of OSIS — you’d have access to your data from anywhere in the world, and any doctor could look through it, but only with permission given by you or someone you authorized. You’d be given professional help everywhere, and problems such as language barrier or the inability to accurately describe your symptoms would practically disappear.

Our dream in 10Clouds was not to design a healthcare solution, but THE healthcare solution — one product that would cover all bases and change the world. Right now, medical data, appointment systems, online medical consultations and health monitoring are scattered around many ambitious but incomplete apps. There’s nothing wrong in this — we are in a transitional phase, so we need them. Every one of them brings us closer to the bright future, in which people are in charge of their medical data, their health is monitored every day, and diagnoses are accurate almost every time.

At 10Clouds, we can help you develop these apps. We want to contribute, we want to be involved, we want to make a change. Someday we will get to OSIS, but we have to go there step by step, and build it brick by brick. We already have a diagnosis and a treatment plan — now, let’s develop a cure!

Every product nowadays needs a proper promotional video — revolutionary healthcare system is no exception :) We squeezed the essential information about our project into 1-minute animation. Hope you like it!

PS. OSIS was one of the most fascinating and absorbing projects we’ve ever worked on. We’d love to talk about it more, so if you have any questions or thoughts, please share them in the comments section 😊Oh, and don’t forget to 👏!
