Destiny is a sharp blade

by Scott Wozniak

I had to
break down
the door
more
than once.

I had to
hide
kitchen
knives
for safety.

We drank,
fought,
shot drugs,
and fucked.

One night
her hand
went through
plate glass
as I slammed
the front door
behind me,
slitting her wrist
where hidden blades
couldn’t reach.

Suddenly
I was aware
that some scars
are destined
for certain
flesh.
