Distance by P.A. Levy

there was a girl
slumped on a park bench
sobbing her little
heart out
i sat yards away
on the grass
with a can of beer
watching her
what’s the story
to make her face
in anguish
studied her for about
five minuets
roughly two thousand
and ten teardrops
a guess
i didn’t count them
but saw every one
skid in mascara
then i came to realise
i must be in a french art film
lit a cigarette
