Self Evaluation
Each class and each semester are completely different. Not only can your life change between December and January, but the new classes are a fresh start. No matter what has happened in the previous semester, the new semester is a fresh start with new professors and new assignments. This portfolio class was a fresh start for me, my blog, and my writings.
Over the course of this class we have had suggested or mandated deadline for each assignment. Each one had a checkpoint where we should have all parts completed, and along the way be working on our portfolio contributions and reflective blog posts to finish in time and not be rushed. In past semesters when I have a cumulative project due at the end of the semester I usually wait until the last month of the course to complete it, however that is not the case for this class. I was genuinely excited about each and every project for this course, because they all interested me and allowed me to delve into parts of my professional self that I had not had the opportunity to do previously.
I began writing for my blog and my contributions in January, I was genuinely excited. By the time the deadline was closing in, I had several posts to choose from in order to put my best foot forward. Some posts I posted earlier in the semester so I would at least have a basis for my blog and website; however my other posts needed some editing. So edit I did. Over the course of a week, I went back through over my individual contributions and decided which ones were quality and which ones just needed some more attention. This was a fun task for me. I enjoy writing, so sitting down and editing was something that I enjoyed doing. As for the reflective blog posts, I had completed most of them by the time the last month of the class rolled around, so I only had three to do in order to be done. The last two posts could not be completed until I was ready to be done with the course. I am still not ready to be done with this course.
Each project allowed me to discover an aspect of portfolio and professional presence building, I did not know that I enjoyed. I got to create my online professional presence on several different platforms, as well as network with other professionals via LinkedIn. I completed this assignment whole heartedly. The next large project was creating our portfolio website-something that I loved doing. I loved designing a website and building a brand for myself. I started off with a template, but completed edited everything about it. At the end of the day writing my social media marketing strategy helped me to learn about a career field, that I had never considered before and I love it.
Each assignment allowed me to learn more about myself, and I completed one not only by the suggested deadline, but also before the suggested deadline or due date. When I was faced with a professional presentation, I got nervous. I have done many a presentation in my college career, but not one where I was considered the professional or expert on a certain subject. Not only did I enjoy writing and planning my presentation with my great panel, I loved every minute of presenting it to people I considered to be the true professionals-other professors and my fellow panel presenters. This experience not only allowed for me to learn something about my fellow presenters, but it also allowed me to speak on a subject that I love and have fully embraced in my newly professional life. This presentation not only allowed me to present myself as a professional and speak as such, but it also allowed me to truly become a professional in my own eyes.
Throughout this course not only did I meet and I feel, exceed the project expectations, but I also learned an immense amount about my professional self, what I want to do in life, and what my true passion is-writing. I love every second that I sit at my laptop and just write, from my personal feelings or about a subject that I am passionate about. This course not only allowed me to truly excel at the required and expected coursework but it allowed me to truly enjoy a college class and experience. So all in all, I think I have met every standard for this course and what the expected outcome for each one of us was
