The BEST Performance of the VMAs

Hot performances on top of performances! The VMAs was held on August 28, 2016 and the best artist that hit the stage was, Beyonce. She made it known that she owned the show — even if, Rihanna was receiving the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award and performed at least five times! Beyonce shut the show down, but there were a few things that I’ve noticed differently this year.

Beyonce starting the performance with, “Pray You Catch Me.”

There was a lot of focus on the Hip Hop aspect of music rather than, pop and country music. In the past, MTV brought more attention to pop music, but they are beginning to realize majority of music people are listening to these days is Hip Hop. This year’s artist performance increased in Hip Hop such as, Future, Chance the Rapper introducing artist, and Kanye had the opportunity to grab the audience attention for six minutes (it really was supposed to be four minutes, but he went over time).

Even though Beyonce shut the show down, Rihanna was the main focus of the night. Since she was receiving the very first Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, it was only right to give her the floor for five performances, and if I do say so myself, as a #RihannaNavy fan, she performed very well — but her vocals weren’t always on point. She still did a great job considering this is her 11th year in the industry. Also, it was an honor for Drake to give a speech while Rihanna was receiving the award.

Although there was a lot of talking going on in the show, it could have been cut out. This was by far the best VMAs I have seen. Every year they try to top the last award show and I believe this year they achieved it. Everyone talked about Rihanna receiving her award, Beyonce performing Lemonade live and killing the show, and Kanye’s performance.
