Globally, our socio-economic institutions are not delivering on their promises. Ecological destruction, the degradation of democracies, widening inequality, and declining life expectancy are just a few of the systemic challenges facing humanity today. Behind many of these issues are the unprecedented effects of exponential technologies and extractive institutions on our minds, societies, and planet.

Can we envision a different set of social structures that are more equitable, caring, and regenerative? And, if we could, how might we transition from where we are today to such a future? Denizen is a hub for the exploration of these questions. Our work is centered on an inquiry spanning six interrelated themes: economics, politics, justice, technology, culture, and consciousness.

Each week, we explore a new topic on our podcast: Becoming Denizen. We aim to make our content accessible without compromising its intellectual robustness. Our show notes offer additional resources for those interested in diving deeper. We also publish summary notes of our research on essential topics; such as universal basic income, long term capitalism, and content moderation for social media. This ongoing discourse provides an intellectual foundation to further our mission: to accelerate a global awakening and galvanize collective action to transform society.

At the heart of Denizen is a community that recognizes the need to redesign the value systems, incentives, and social contracts underpinning modern society. ‍We are a diverse collective that includes entrepreneurs, scholars, artists, activists, designers, investors, and nonprofit leaders. Among us are systems change leaders at organizations such as Zebras Unite, Purpose, the Center for Humane Technology, the Post Growth Institute, and the Buckminster Fuller Institute.

For two and a half years, we have been building collective wisdom as a community through our discourse. We started at the onset of the pandemic as a small group of friends, examining the implications of that historic moment. Interest in our discussions grew, so we brought them to a nascent social audio app called Clubhouse. Our talks quickly expanded beyond that initial group of friends to a reach of more than eighty thousand people around the world.

We’ve amassed an archive of over a hundred conversations, with a wide array of incredible guests. We are excited to bring that content to a wider audience with our podcast. Alongside our podcast — we are also debuting this Medium publication, which will enable us to share our insights and connect people to incredible work happening across our community.

With these new content formats, we enter the next phase of Denizen. We hope our conversations and reflections will inspire you as much as they have inspired us.
