Am I Always Me?

Isn’t the title a bit suggestive?

Is there a moment when you find yourself in a song and stop and think? I do it all the time, sometimes it helps me, sometimes it hurts me.

Maybe you have heard of a Turkish band called “Buyuk Ev Ablukada”. Normally, when I was sitting in a café somewhere with my friends and I heard their songs, I thought, “What kind of music is this?” I mean, there were points where I couldn’t actually connect the song with the music. Of course that was a long time ago and now things have changed a bit…

The other day when I was sitting alone looking for some deep music — which I do often, I even create special times to create a playlist — I came across the song “Arayan Bulur”.

I remember thinking “Wow, what a MEANINGFUL song”.

Of course, that’s how I see it. I told my close friend that this song has a perfect meaning ‘for me’ and when he said ‘excuse me, but they are meaningless sentences’, my opinion didn’t change.

Is it really me? Leave me alone.
I’ll fall apart if I can
As one grows — excuse me — one becomes more and more like oneself.
If I find a self and hide in it, who will find me?
Find me as I am, as I am, as I am

Ben harbiden ben miyim? Üzerime gelmeyin
Becerebilirsem ufalanıyorum
İnsan büyüdükçe -kusura bakma- giderek kendine benziyor
Ben bir beni bulup içine girip saklanırsam, kim beni bulur?
Olduğum gibi, olduğum gibi, olduğum gibi bul

This is exactly how this article came about. Are we always ourselves? Are we surrounded by people who accept us as we are? Or most importantly, how much do we know and love ourselves before others? As I get older, I guess my journey of getting to know myself continues in an adventurous and painful way. It is a meaningful and unexpected coincidence for me to come across such a song on my journey to love myself exactly ‘as I am’. I guess we can call it SERENDIPTY for short.

It was a song that I questioned myself a lot and thought a lot. If you read this article and listen to the song, I would like to know what you think.

See you soon, BECOME BETTER.
