The 99 club story of happiness
I watched an interesting video of Gopal Gaur das on youtube. It resonated quite a bit . It talks about a happy farmer family who the king sees and says with surprise, “they appear more happier me, despite all my riches” . He asks his minister for a reason, who says to give 99 gold coins and to revisit in 6 months. The minister leaves 99 coins at the family’s doorstep. The farmer counts and finds and feels stressed about the 100th coin and doesn’t rejoice the 99 coins he just got. In life we are all similar, we postpone our happiness by say, maybe next job, next house, next car, next travel. We live in a world of social media where instant gratification and comparison are the norms. We miss the point of living in the moment and just keep trying to find happiness in newer goals.
The point of the story was that 99 club is where we already have 99 coins of happiness but we run after the 100th one which we possibly don’t even need. It made me deeply introspect, I made my husband watch it along with me. I guess we are all guilty of this , we just think we are almost there, if this will happen then I will be happier. But that state never comes, we always have something else to achieve. Its an endless vicious cycle called life, embrace the 99 coins you already have and enjoy those.
