As I mentioned in a recent blog, my legal name change was approved by the clerk of court on July 2nd. My next step is to get my legal name and gender marker changed with the Social Security Administration. Of course, all offices are currently closed due to COVID-19. So today I am sending the required documents via Priority Mail to my local SSA office:

  • Certified copy of the legal name change court order
  • A signed letter from my doctor confirming that I have had appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition
  • A completed SS-5 form (from the SSA website)

According to the SSA agent that I spoke with on the phone, SSA could take two weeks or more to get this done — provided there are no issues with the documents I provide. 🤞

Once everything has been completed with the SSA, I will have to wait 36 hours before going to the DMV to get everything changed with them. Hopefully, that will be a less painful, faster process — since they are still open.

Next week (July 23rd) I have my top surgery consultation with Dr. Keelee MacPhee. I am hoping and praying that she will schedule my surgery ASAP.

Okay…only had time for a very short update. More updates soon.

Stay safe!

Liam
